Difference between sonnet and romance?

I was hoping someone could help me out. I am writing a paper on romances y romanceros en el siglo de oro de espana and i was hoping to include lope de vega. i know he wrote during the renacimiento and i know he wrote many sonnets, but are these sonnets considered romances also? any help would be appreciated!
